Dark Storm

by Cadence McCracken
(Martinez CA)

I feel the darkness creeping up
and slowly taking over.
It traps me in its murky arms
with no warning whatsoever.

Their outcasted eyes, they demolish
whatever's left of me.
They leave me with no scars or marks,
just feeling so empty.

One single drop of rain
and suddenly I'm soaked through.
Surrounded by an avalanche,
this dark storm is nothing new.

But everybody's dry despite the tears,
and the sky is clear and bright.
Once again, I find myself
running from the light.

Death haunts my every step,
and I long for its embrace.
Death strikes terror into my soul,
yet it's tomorrow I fear to face.
