One Word

by Cadence McCracken
(Martinez CA)

One word
that represents
all that I still have left.

She's halfway gone,
and I'm holding on.
But one word
could take it all
away.

One word
equals tears,
equals death.
One word
that'll haunt me
til her final breath.

One word that I'd
love to erase.
Fighting one word hidden
in a secret space.

One word
with the power
to rip it all apart.
One word
with the power
to stop her heart.

One word
that she resorts to
when she can no longer cope.
One word
that breaks our hearts
and strips us of all hope.

Someone please,
just please,
eliminate that one word.

When we're gone,
she'll hold on
to that one word.
