A warning to drivers

by Susan Logan
(Belfast, Northern Ireland)

A stabbing pain like I've never felt before,
With a silent scream I fall to the floor.
This can't be happening, this can't be real,
I never imagined this would be how it would feel!
I'm the one supposed to die first,
Not my precious child to whom I gave birth.
We tried our best to steer you right,
Yet we could never have predicted what happened tonight.
One wreckless moment,
One careless mistake.
Too busy texting to put your foot on the brake.
Let our sorrow be a warning to all who drive,
If you don't pay attention when driving,
You might be the next one not to survive.
