An Ode to his Sweatshirt

by Emily
(Louisville)

I pull his sweatshirt on over my head
I push back the covers and crawl into bed
I sleep in this shirt every night
It keeps me safe without a nigh light
I feel close to him even when I am not
It gives me the warmth that I’ve always sought
Before my thoughts would wander and stray
But this piece of cloth keeps my mind at bay
I have my heart wrapped safely in this
Wearing his shirt gives me temporary bliss
