AN UNKNOWN PHONE

by Dr. Rick McGrath, Ph.D.

AN UNKNOWN PHONE.

Ring, ring, ring, goes the phone
Someone is listening, then click
And then there is a dial tone

Who could be calling this phone?
Ring, ring, ring, goes the phone
Click and it’s the dial tone

A wrong number, perhaps
Acting as if it’s my own
I answer, click a dial tone.

Maybe it’s St. Peter calling me
Saying, “appear before the throne”
Click, another dial tone.

Maybe it’s my mind playing tricks
I have created this because I’m alone
Dial tone.

I’m here in the now wondering
Who’s calling from the unknown?
Over and over I get a dial tone.
