Autumn

by Ayushi R. Saxena
(India)

The wind breezed between the trees
whispering in hushed tones like melody
announcing that autumn has arrived
bringing cold nights and gusty days with it.

The trees whined with misery
in the withering woods
hoping for a last glance at the sun
realizing that the desire would be a miracle.

The leaves comforted the forest
with their final song
as the sun came up
declaring summer once again.
