Birds Were Made to Fly

by Mary Pagdati
(CYPRUS)

Each waking morning, I’d follow their enchanting songs,
Chip-chirping, flapping their wings calling, “Come fly along”.
Looking to the Heavens my heart would cry out,
Watching their outstretched wings fluttering about.
With every new day the songs grew louder while the heart grew fonder too.
“One day I’ll join you – this you’ll see - I’ll fly much higher than you.”

The horizon grows wider, the earth so small,
And through the welcoming sky, the engines roar.
With splendour it pierces the clouds finding its way through,
Pressing higher and higher to worlds old and new.
And to where it goes, Lord bring it home again,
For tomorrow, with roars and new songs, the skies it will reign.
