BITTERSWEET MEMORIES

by Gayle McMillan
(Hoquiam, Washington, US)

A wave of loss enveloped
It seemed to swallow me
With icy coldness, sadness
Leaving me feeling empty

I felt the chill sweep over
A deep sorrow, of losing you
Leaving my heart, my world frozen
My lips, my heart turned blue

Those bittersweet memories
I've laughed, most times I've cried
Happy memories have turned on me
Only to remind me that you died

I'll keep your memory living
Breathing, beating in my heart
Keep feeling the horrible loss of you
In my lonely gallery of sad art
