Bookworm

by Amanda Blanchard
(North Carolina)

I want to hold it
I want to smell it
I want to run my fingers over it
and let it tickle the fleshy bits
I want the weight of it in my lap
I want the little cuts and cracks
I want the broken spine
I want the stains
I want the folds
I want to play with it under the sheets
I want it in the dark
and any time of the day
I want it on the toilet
and in my bed
I want it in the car
and under the trees
I want it to blow my mind
I want it to change who I am
I want to take it
I want it to take me !
I never want it to go away
