Chicken Pox

by McCollonough Ceili
(Nashville, TN and Ireland)

I itched all over , then broke out in little red spots,
“Congratulations” mom said, “you have the chicken pox”.
For breakfast that morning she made eggs,
and fried them on my head.
She told me to bath using porridge instead of soap,
It made me feel like a dope.
But I get to watch TV all day, and eat ice cream sweet and cold,
Instead of going to school and doing what I am told.
When he got home dad said, “You need some special lotion I think”,
It stopped the itching, but has turned me pink.
