Convict(ion)

by K. Joy Wood
(Tennessee)

What do we believe
As a population
Who
Cage
One another
By steel or psyche

Is there a looking in
Or out

Locks and blocks
Keys and gates our choices
As is the power to
Own ourselves
Con ... structions
Which may stand or fall, in
Acceptance or denial
Courage or fear
Truth or lies

Some say imprisonment offers a
Degree of security, routine
Barriers, familiar
Walls, chosen
Isolation

Can we live in honest freedom, barring none?
The answer rests in our convict(ion)

Trust may be the most elusive key of all
