Dragonfly

You were my favorite from the beginning.
They started the clock. At first I was winning.

That reality - frightening unless in a dream.
It ends well that way. I don't need a team.

Panic set in. Let go of the reins. Let go of the fear.
Let go of the strain.

Close my eyes; this cannot be good. Wish that I could
change this for I would if I could.

No longer the sound of beautiful wings.
Beautiful creature. Beautiful things.

I let you go that day at the pond
my dearest. We can't fix this with a magical wand.

Gone, my dragonfly that I loved truly
A new racer. My soul unruly.

I miss you; wish you'd give me a second chance
To own the reins; a perfect stance.

I love you dragonfly, please don't be silly
I'll wait for you forever at this pond by this lily.
