Forbidden

by Cassandre Smith
(Ohio)

A cascading tendril of fascination
Bargaining for one's heart that cannot be owned
Colliding souls amongst a smokey haze of illusion
Delivering promises, already broken by the past
Eternal longing, for a pureness that never existed
Fortune displaced, recovered by another hopeful, never to be regained
