Freedom's Patriot

by Emily
(Massachusetts)

Heroes are born and heroes die.
Though without them this nation would surely not survive.
These heroes are not unlike you and I, but unique all the same.
They are patriots and warriors and chose to die, for the freedoms enjoyed by you and I.
They are legends whether living or dead whose blood is the foundation on which America stands.
They pledged their lives to serve God and country.
And did so with both pride and honor.
That courage to fight for liberty is what we recall when we remember our heroes.
They are our defenders.
The patriots of America.
May we always remember these heroes and celebrate the values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness that they so courageously have protected.

Excellent and thoughtful poem Emily. I will use it at my church this morning.
