Goodbye

by Shaista Khadim

Sometimes I wonder
Will the goodbye hurt?
Will it leave me shattered?
And mingle me in the dirt?

They say: Saying goodbye is the hardest
I don't know if it's true
But will my world stop
When I say those words to you?

Goodbye. Why does this world hold so much power?
To displace someone
To cut off someone's roots
To leave one in the pain of a ton?

The clouds in the sky
All depart away from here
Do they have to go through the torture of goodbye too?
Is that why they shed tears?

What is the "Good" in a "Goodbye"?
If all goodbye leaves you is with darkness?
If all goodbye leaves you is with the fear of loneliness?
If all goodbye does is cause you sadness?
If all goodbye does is ruin?
If all goodbye does is to be cruel?
If all goodbye does is bury you in the pool?
If all goodbye does is leave you with a killing tool?
Why?
