Great Day Gone

by Sadie Ann Diehl
(Maryland)

A great day gone
Spent in your arms
The sun slowly sets
And out come the stars

When you drive away
My heart goes along
It knows on its own
Just where it belongs

It rides beside you
As you go down the road
It follows you inside
When you get home

It lies in your bed
While you drift off to sleep
Leans against your chest
To feel it’s other half beat

It leaves me behind
To be closer to you
I hope it doesn’t mind
When someday I come too.
