Happy Mother's Day from Son

by Mikhail Christian Peralta
(Philippines)

Roses are red
violets are blue
today I am
reminded of you.

recalling the time
I first opened my eyes
to see and excite
a wonderful surprise.

nobody, however,
remembers first birth
the thoughts and emotions
when they arrive earth.

but the feelings I get
whenever i am around you
brings into conclusion
what I felt the first I met you.

day after day
I always could say
I have a mom
that would never dismay.

never surrenders
never backs down
to any of life's
hardships or frowns.

these things, I know
you teach me so well
to help me grow
and make me excel

and yes I slowly and surely will grow
to a man, like maybe, Donatello.

for now, however, I'm just a cheap boy
who gives poems as gift but with love and joy.

A HAPPY MOTHERS DAY, I SAY,
FROM YOUR SON WHO WISHES HE MAY

SEND ROSES AND VIOLETS
THAT ARE RED AND BLUE
TO SURPRISE YOU AND SAY
THAT I LOVE YOU.
