I held you, my Son

by Brenda Tricia Taga-Catalon

I held you when the thunder roared,
your little crown softly nestled in my bossom
I held you when the lightning dazzled,
your gentle fingers intertwined with my calloused hands
I held you when the loud rains became unbearable,
Your petite ears covered by my palms
I held you because you said, " mommy, I'm scared"

My little son, it's okay to be scared
Because life is full of risks, turns and twisted surprises,
Some unpleasant but mostly amazing,
some tragic but mostly magical

It's okay to be scared
For after it comes the strength of knowing
that you have overcome the fright
That all along, God was walking by your side
It's okay to be scared because mommy is here

i will hold you as long as my heart allows me to
I will hold you til my breath gives me away
I will hold you until my soul begs me to
All these because God held me when I was praying for you
I love you, my heaven - sent little son
