I Sleep

by Sury Cazel
(FL, USA)

As it digs down into my flesh,
all that I am rushes out
Breathing the impure yet precious oxygen
I feel it trickle down my naked arm
Leaves its traces behind
Bright red with shades of darkness
Makes its way out

Pain
The pain is present
Horrible yet pleasant to feel
A rush of adrenaline flowing
through my veins

Emerging from the darkness of
my soul to an outside world
I watch as it passes through broken flesh
A companion to my life

From the very core of my being
I have sudden freedom
Lightness coming from this very body
Contains a marvelous substance
Blood

And by the power of this beautiful
sharp miracle
I sleep.
