I Tried To Tell Him

by Kenneth Hoffman
(Morristown, NJ , USA)

I’ve got something to tell him
But it never seems the right time.
There’s a big hole I fell in
And the fault has got to be mine.

I tried to tell him but he just won’t listen.
Sure, it’s nice to go out, especially with him.
He buys me presents and does me favors,
His ex just returned the ring that he gave her.

I can’t find a reason or words that are pleasing,
I told him I’m leaving then say I’m just teasing.

I tried to tell him but he just won’t listen.
He’s such a great guy, I’m really gonna miss him.
I never said those three little words,
To my hints he pretended not to have heard.

I can’t find a reason or words that are pleasing
I’ll hurt him real bad and then he’ll be leaving.
But how can I tell him, I can’t live a lie,
I love someone else and I don’t know why.
