If I Cared

by Kenneth Hoffman
(Morristown, NJ , USA)

Someday I’ll take love for a ride,
But it’s all locked up inside
In a place that’s all battered,
Not that it matters.

If I cared about love
I’d be staring at the dark.
If I cared about you
I’d be fixing up my heart.
My eyes would fill up
At dawn I’d be still up
With nothing to do,
Just feeling blue.

If I cared about love
I’d hate being apart.
That’s not what I think of
Not caring’s an art.

If I cared about love,
I’d be crying our tune,
If I cared about you,
I’d be calling you soon.
If I cared about love
I would know what to do,
If I cared about love,
I’d be thinking of you.
