I'm sorry

by Amanda Ndhlovu
(Durban South Africa)

There's one thing I really don't mind doing...
Admitting when I am wrong.
On that note, I'm sorry things were never real between you and I.

I judged your actions more than your words
I paid more attention into making the relationship work
Hence the interpretation of your love was a false alarm
I fell in love alone...

I've made and torn us apart
And you played your part just by the book
I'm sorry to have misled myself
I'm sorry you were never mine
I fell in love with an illusion
I'm sorry things were never real between you and I.

It's no wonder this goodbye poem feels like an alibi...
