Johnny Rode the Cowboy Trail

by Leonard Frutiger
(Lynnwood, WA )

Johnny rode the cowboy trail
his six guns by his side
til his mom called that it's dinner time
and come in for the night

His horse named Shadow disappeared
as did the evening sun
but Johnny knew that he'd be there
when morning had begun.

Then once again they'd ride the trails
past tumbleweeds and dunes of sand
across the snowcapped Rockies
dropping to the Rio Grande

Then turning wide upon the trail
they'd thunder on back home
they'd give the outlaws one more chance
and Shadow seemed to know

So ride ride Johnny ride
with your six guns by your side
til your mom calls that it's dinner time
and come in for the night.
