Long Distance Valentine (The reluctant romantic)

by Luke McKenna
(Ireland)

I know you know colours,
Of flowers and shite,
But for Valentine's poems,
That's what you're expected to write

Besides I don't buy flowers,
They're not my cup of tea,
Why spend money,
On what's outside for free?

Sorry bout that,
It seems I've digressed,
And now come across,
As flower obsessed.

The flowers are metaphor,
At the end of the day,
Helping put words,
To what we all try to say

So roses are red,
Violets are blue,
I hate Valentine's,
But want to hate it with you,

Violets are blue,
And roses are red,
Though if I was with you,
I'd probably like it instead

The flowers have featured,
But haven't fully displayed,
The message to you,
That I want to convey

My dear you are awesome,
One of the best that I've met,
The time I've spent with you,
I'll never forget

No matter what happens,
Something I can't ignore,
Is that if I see you little or lots,
I'll always want more
