Lost Patriot

by Leonard Masauli
(Central Africa, Malawi)

I wish I could hold the wheels
And utter sense to your brains
I wish in the field I were the master
And level the balance of sanity
What sort of courageousness
That you spit on the public
In your slanderous jacket
And you spoil the dusk
Just to win favours at the dining table
Forget not your traits ‘villager’
Yet your house is untidy
And you decorate the outside
Shall we hold on to our trust?
That you shall always vomit the just…
We are the lost patriots
