MEMORIES SWEET

by Nkamang Tsotetsi
(Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa)

It was as pleasant as summer night
It was as splendid as a walk by the sea under the moon
I was merely twenty and you twenty two
Where did that time go, flew on golden wings

My hair was twenty years old and black
Your bald head shiny with no hair shown
Our world was by our naïve selves
What happened to that time and tide

Like a smooth sailing ship our lives were shaped
With one love we went through turmoil
But that love together with fate always favoured us
For we were pillars of strength for us

Looking back with forty years gone by
Memories sweet that I lived this life
Recounting all with no regret but fulfilment
Waiting to smilingly tell this to my folk
