Metal Chains

I won't wait,
or need your hand.
I learned how to walk,
and stumble long ago.

I don't need your lies,
and hate to break my fall.
The pain doesn't last too long.

I'd adore your help,
and welcome your sympathy.
If I didn't already know my blood would be paid,
for the debt I now owed.

So for this,
I will not ask.

I won't fall on that road again.
I protect my heart,
in metal chains.

Heavy and cold,
but I wait for love and trust,
to adorn me again.
