Midnight Demon

by Anne Stockholm
(London, UK)

Walking in the dark
I am devoured in black
Drunk from all the pain
I stumble off the track

Holding the blades steady
I reek of all that is hopeless
Bled out and dry from love
I am the demon's magnum opus

Nothing but frozen
I am caged in my heart
Embracing this prison
For being a fool since the start

Half dead for a man
Losing the war against the soul
Betrayed by my own trust
Here, I stand alone

Whilst others search for fire
I can only befriend the moon
As they serenade the shining sky
My candles die too soon

Walking in the dark
This is all I will ever be
Drunk from all the pain
Til there will be nothing left of me
