Mother

by Nikhil Jain
(Sironj, Madhya Pradesh, India)

She is a blessing
fallen upon the Earth,
Gifted me her vision
on my birth,
Who loves me
more than a lover can,
who claps after
my every show’s end,
who doesn’t take
even a nap until I sleep,
or make any promise
which she does not keep,
who cares me
with the softness of fur,
who believes in me
more than she does in her,
In the dark
who becomes my sight,
told me stories
to teach me wrong and right,
she is precious
more than treasure,
whom the whole world
calls the mother.
