Mother

by Kgothatso Moloko Phaka
(Lyndhurst, South Africa)

Mother you are a heart-healer
grief-stealer
mother you are a pain-stealer and
stone eater.

You are my nurse in the night
you make my nightmares flee.
To me you are more than a mother.
You let me share my pains with you
and you make me proud to have
you.

You hear me when I call
you are my morning
star.
When darkness fills my space
I fear nothing because you are always
by my side
