My Father

by David McDonald
(Fife, Scotland)

My father taught me much I remember,
his lessons have kept me alive
When I venture a look behind me,
he gave me the strength to survive
Hard lessons taken and painful to me,
that has kept me going on
There were times I cried and asked for help, friends of mine have gone

The lessons I had may have made me mad,
now the value is clear
The bravery to fight and survive
courage to conquer the fear

My father gave me things I never saw,
I see now clear as day
Thank you father for making me strong,
Oh and Happy Fathers Day
