My Sailing Trip

by Sandy Kocanowski
(Shalimar, FL, USA)

I had a teeny little boat
with a small white sail.
I took it on the ocean
To find the great blue whale.

The water was calm, the sky was clear
The bluest I’ve ever seen.
The breeze was cool, the air was crisp
A most beautiful scene.

But THEN, The wind started to blow
And waves began to rise.
My sail flapped back and forth
And my hair went in my eyes.

I could hear a distant rumble
And knew it was going to rain.
To keep sailing in my tiny boat
Would be completely insane.

Sadly I turned my boat around;
My plan was going to fail.
Would l ever get another chance
To see the great blue whale?

But as my boat bobbed up and down
Upon the now murky sea.
I turned my head and saw an eye
Looking right at me.

I knew at once it was the whale
I had been looking for.
My plan succeeded after all,
So I sang all the way to the shore.
