Night/Morn

by Maria
(North East England)

When day turns to night and the world slumbers deep,
I'm wide awake; revelling in the stillness and quiet,
releasing whirling thoughts onto paper,
wanting to delay the morning sun from awakening,
not ready to slip into a land of dreams, nor tired enough to close my eyes,
trying to grasp time and hold it in the palm of my hand,
knowing that there is no power in me to do so.
My body is relaxed, my mind won't switch off;
I'm stranded between the dark shadows of evening and the vibrant colours of dawn,
what a beautiful place to be, alone but not lonely nor afraid.
