Reflection of the Night

by Christine Roderick
(Southbury, CT)

Their shadows reflected in the light of the street below.
The wheels of the bike turned without effort.
The tires gripped the road.
Silence surrounded them.
The noise of the world had no effect.
She felt only his back pressed against her stomach
and he in turn felt the urgency of her body against his.
The destination unknown, the journey long and arduous.
Balance was essential.
The rain cooled their skin.
The night sky filled their mood.
They embraced the energy of each other.
They became fluid,
moving like the warm breeze that brushed past them.
Their bodies reflecting what was yet to come.
