Shoulder

by Marie Bowers
(USA)

You may not think shoulders serve much purpose,
but to support our head and hold our purses.
But they are so much more than you can see,
often overlooked like you and me.

When the weight you carry buckles your knees,
and blinded by tears you struggle to see.
and all you want is to turn and hide,
instead turn around and you will find,
a shoulder soft and understanding,
never questioning or demanding,
it’s there for you whenever needed,
so don’t suffer alone and feel defeated.

I know you’ll say that “you are fine”,
but we both know that is a lie.
We get so used to hiding the truth,
we start doing it when we don’t have to.
