Soldier

by J-P G.
(St-Malo, MB, Canada)

Here I sit watching the Ghan
Was once a boy but now a man
Looks improved through my eyes
Although sometimes we'll take some lives
Taking chances night and day
Hoping someday they'll go away
We give them water and sometimes food
Sometimes they are thankful but often rude
IEDs have killed our friends
We know deep down there is no end
We like to fight and return fire
They like to hide and pull a wire
Even thought the days get hot
We'll rough them up with all we've got
Hang in there boys 5 months to the end
Then we head back home to our family and friends
