Storm

by Amanda Blanchard
(North Carolina)

I want to hear you scream;
tremble in my wake –
I want to feel you quiver
as I lash upon your body –
look how your limbs do flail
while I whip through your leaves !
flagellant winds overtake you
with such power
you could almost be destroyed !
how can you bear my torment ?
let me inflict such pain ?
I would tear you
from your very roots
and topple your majestic frame;
rip into you
make you yell to stop !
but I must continue with my rage –
your whimpers are too sweet a sound
not to hear
