Summer's Day...

by Chelsea H
(England)

The sun’s shining bright in the sky,
It’s a lovely summer’s day,
But I still have a tear in my eye,
That I have to quickly wipe away.

Everyone is smiling,
No-one seems to care,
That there’s someone missing,
Someone who isn’t there.

They all laugh as one tells a joke,
Acting fine and messing about,
But when I speak, I start to choke,
And the words just won’t come out.

I try to be happy and put on a front,
As I do almost every day,
But as the days go on, I find it hard,
Just to figure out what to say.

My friends ask me what’s wrong
But I can never seem to speak,
Of how the world seems so black,
So dull, so cruel, so bleak.

Every day thousands die,
Even on a summer’s day.
Which is why I still have a tear in my eye,
That I have to quickly wipe away.
