The Best Kind of Lies

by Emily
(Iowa, USA)

it was a simple word
DEATH

almost beautiful, really
nothing new, but a simple
reminder
but nobody liked it(they

were willing to live in darkness
it was too honest)
it knew everyone
but no one wanted to admit
so they locked him up
in a corner,
told it to change

and it did.

it turned into
LOSS
but no one liked that either

(they wanted the truth)
so it turned into nothing and
hid.

all the while
BIRTH was being
praised (just as
inevitable
but not quite as real)
