The Choice

by Joey Cain
(Flint, Michigan)

In my mind I thought that I could run,
and escape the fear of falling.
But even in the darkest night,
I still heard you softly calling.

When my heart was lost in sadness,
with tears beyond consolation,
you brought comfort effortlessly,
with gracious love and endless patience.

When I was wrapped in childlike joy,
I felt this same pull again.
Still my mind, my heart turns to you,
for love shares joy as well as pain.

So often you are in my thoughts,
my prayers, and dreams, which may come true.
You told me that the choice is mine.
With all my heart, love, I choose you.
