The Days of the Locust

by John Creekmore
(Suffolk, VA, USA)

It matters not how much blood
And pain have attended the path
Thus far,

Neither do the deepest losses
Or the most discouraging defeats
Tell the truth about this journey.

But if after it all you come at last
To a lighted space and dwell there,
Then all of the days of the locust
Shall be done away,

For you will have come home,
Never to leave again.
