The Me That You Saw Yesterday...

by Cassandra Saint- Charles
(North Miami, Florida )

The me that you saw yesterday is dead and gone away
The me that you saw yesterday is not the same today
She pleaded for this to end
Now she finally got what she wanted
Here are the words that she’s been dying to say….
Have you ever heard of the word LOVE???
I’m guessing that’s A “NO”
No wonder why it was so hard for you to love me
No wonder why it was so hard for you to love the people around you
No wonder why it was so hard for you to even love yourself I never tried to be somebody else
I was being me
You was just to blind to see
You was just too busy criticizing the opposite of me
You never knew any REAL things about me
All you knew was that I was the girl who lived beneath your feet
Guess what?
Now I’m standing on my own stage
That’s better than my old bed
Doing what I love the best
Singing “Finally”
I was the one who never spoke a word
I was the one who you called “DIRT”
I was the one who was real and kind
I was the one who you called “Deaf and Blind”
Living with in this world was like not having the 1st Amendment No freedom of expression
No NOTHING
Just cruel and unreasonable punishment
My eyes were never dry
They were always red and useless
My palms were never ok
They were always bruised and hopeless
I want to remind you of what kind of person you were
You should have known that it wasn’t me that you were looking for
You were looking for the real you
But you couldn’t find it
Your heart was half fulfilled
It was yourself that you hated
It was your guts that you hated
I don’t wish to go back in the pass
I wished for a new life
Now that I’m living it
It certainly ain’t a dream
I ‘m sorry I wasn’t able to stay……
The me that you saw yesterday is dead and gone away
The me that you saw yesterday is not the same today
I pleaded for this battlefield to end
Now that I finally got what I wanted
These are the words that I’ve been dying to say
The me that you saw yesterday is finally BREATHING
