The Present Stage

by Esther Thornburg
(Cantril, Iowa, USA)

Tireless winds journey on their way.
Winds thrash the branches, testing their stay.
From where do the winds come, where do they go?
We may never know.

When the mighty ocean lays calm and still
It is not developing the seasoned sailor's skill.
Difficulties have a purpose, bringing about a will.
Their goal must be, the ages to fill.

Living things are in for change.
Things are not long the same.
Who can survey the coming day?
Life holds more than the game board's play.

How should we rearrange the present stage
Should we make ready for tomorrows age?
What powers are writing the next page?
Choices today affect the future days.
