The Wild

by Esther Thornburg
(Cantril, Iowa, USA)

Wisdom of the wild
View the wayside awhile
Treasures are in the leaf
Saved for a cup of tea

Keep mint in the flowerpot
Adding zest a lot
Flavor the apple sauce
Tastes not forgot

Food bearing landscape
Blossoms and fruit look great
From currents to elderberry
To the bright red cherry.

Something one can eat
Is hard to beat
Give yourself a treat
It is truly neat
