What is love?

What is love, when the one you love doesn't love you back?
when push comes to shove, you would do anything to protect her.
blocking a barrage of bullets,
taking the weight of the world off her shoulders,
slowly crying rivers of tears down your face, knowing she will never love you.
your world shatters around you,
life and its natural beauty seems grey,
everything seems useless,
until that fateful day, when out of the blue,
she flashes you a smile.
to many this means nothing,
but to you this is everything.
in the midst of all these emotions,
you are still unsure,
what is love?
