Whole Once More

by Grace Moyer
(Iowa)

One becomes two.
They search the ends of the earth
Hoping to become whole once more.
Days, months, and years may pass,
Until the heavens rejoice
And the angels sing
Making two one again.
Blissful they remain
Until the heavens rain,
and the thunder rings
Splitting one into two
Once again.
Leaving the other to cry,
"Why! Why! Why!"
Waiting to be made
Whole once more.
