WISHING

by Shirley Munafo
(CINCINNATI, OHIO)

Looking over the fence at other kids playing
Wishing that they would play with me, too.

But none of them pay any attention to me
So I start thinking about what I could do

Maybe I'll scream and they will come running
Then I'll have to pretend that I am hurt
OK! I do that and throw myself on the ground
But they just laugh as I roll around in the dirt.

I pick myself up and shake my self clean
And laugh right along with them
At least they finally noticed me
I'm wondering now should I do it again?
