You and I

by Colleen Dyman
(Kroonstad, South Africa)

I’m reading her a story book
She woke up with a cry
Spiders were chasing her
I have no inkling why

My little sister sweet and small
I’ll always soothe your tears
I’ll bandage all the scrapes you get
And always calm all your fears

For you and I are intertwined
We’re joined as sisters together
No-one will ever come between us
Because Heaven ordained it, forever
